Mahatripura-Sundari -Mahavidya

Sri Maha Tripura Sundari Mahavidya

Maha Tripurasundari, the tenth deity among Dasa Mahavidya Pantheon and third among Tripura Vidya is the deity of highest order and embodiment of Brahman. One should cross nine mahavidyas to reach Mahatripurasundari. These nine deities are considered as nine steps for achieving her. She is devoid of form and name in reality. No specific clothes are mentioned to be worn while listening to this vidya. White or royal blue or sky blue attire is preferred, as she is the embodiment of Brahman and dwells in Sahasrara chakra.

Goddess Maha Tripura Sundari-Fallacy and Verity

  1. Is Maha Tripurasundari, Lalita Devi or Kamalatmika?
  2. The evidence for a deities existence is based on deity’s manifestation, or guru’s communication or concerned shastras. All scholars perceived Lalita devi or Kamalatmika as Mahatripurasundari. This is false.

There are two types of incarnations :partial and complete incarnation. Dasa mahavidyas are complete incarnations of adiparashakti. Hence Kamalatmika name is nowhere mentioned in Dasamahavidyas kavachams. Even the ancient tantra shastras did not mention her name. She is associated with Para vidya, the wisdom of non-dualism.

  3. Is 'Sreem' Maha Tripura Sundari's Beejakshara Mantram?
  4. Sreem is the Mahalakshmi or Kasi Annapurneswari’s beejakshara mantram. It was fascinated as mahatripura sundari’s beejakshara mantram and also have no evidence in any of the Tantra Shastras.

In reality, she is the Brahman. Hamsaha is her Moola mantram and Ham, Saha are her beejakshara mantrams. Hamsaha denotes “I’m her/him.” ‘Ham’ is associated with shiva and ‘Saha’ is associated with shakti. The mantram ‘Soham’ of Kriya Yoga corresponds to ‘Hamsaha’ mantram. Seekers perform Soham 7 times everymorning as they wakeup. Inhale chanting So mantra and exhale chanting Ham. Mahatripura sundari is formless, nameless in reality. She is not Kamaltmika or lalita or Lalita Tripurasundari. Shiva and Shakti always remain united.

Maha Tripurasundari-Nature and Mein

Gnānārnava Tantra-Uvācha

Sridevyuvācha

Tripura Dividhā Dēva
        Bhavatā Prakaṭī Kritā ।
        Trividhēti Yaduktam
        Tat Prakaṭī Kuru Shankara ।।

Hey Shiva! It is with your grace, i learned two vidyas among Tripura Vidya, now please teach me the third vidya.

Sri Eswara Uvācha

Param Brahma Swarūpam
        Yannāda Bindu Trayātmakam ।
        Shivashaktimayam Tattu
        Kathayāmi Tavānaghē ।।

Parvati! Mahatripura Sundari is the super-consciousness, the Brahman. She is the embodiment of three bindus : zero, and visarga and the other which is beyond everything. She is the unification of Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti.

Vyāpya Tiṣhṭhati Viswam Sā
        Shivam Cha Paramēswari ।
        Pūrvam Guṇaistu Kathitā
        Shivashaktyā Tmatam Shruṇu ।।

Parvati! Mahatripurasundari exists everywhere in the universe. She is the embodiment of Shiva and is Parameswari. The nine vidyas I taught you before are accompanied with three virtues- Satva, Rajo and Tamas. This 10th vidya is devoid of these attributes, de facto, devoid of everything and you are listening to that wisdom.

Hakārādi Sakārānta
        Mātrikāshakti Ravyayā ।
        Hakāram Paramēshāni
        Kēvalam Shiva Uchyatā ।।

Mahatripura sundari beejakshramantram is ham saha. Hakaram, the shiva beejam, comes first and sakaram, the Shakti beejam comes at the end. They are eternal beejaksharams.

Adyantākshara Bhāvēna
        Tadāऽham Sakalātmakaha ।
        Yaduchyatē Mātrikārṇaihi
        Tat Sarva Mahamīswari ।।

One should understand the beginning and ending to perceive this mantra. This ego (me and mine) will be annihilated by worshipping her.

Hakāraha Paramēshāni
        Shūnyarūpi Sadāऽvyayaha ।
        Sakāraha Shaktirūpatvāt
        Parāvāchī Visargavān ।।

The shiva beejakshara mantra ‘ha’karam is the embodiment of Bindu, the zero. It is accompanied by shunyam (nothingness) and is ever eternal. The shakti beejakshara mantram ‘Sa’karam is the nature of Visarga, the second Bindu. 'Hamsaha' is the Mahatripura Sundari’s Mula Mantram.

Utpattehē Kāraṇam Yasmāt
        Shaktirityabhi Dhīyatē ।
        Ātamanaha Darshayē Dyōgaha
So ऽ ham Shabdēna Sundari ।।

Considering Shiva and Shakthi, the latter performs all activities of this creation. She is accountable for five deeds and hence is regarded as Parameswari. The Tripura Sundari mantra ‘soham’ is the path for achieving self-realization.

Bindutraya Samāyōgāt
        Mahātripura Sundarī ।
        Nādarūpēṇa Sā Dēvī
        Hakārārtha Swarūpiṇī ।।

Mahatripurasundari is the nature of the three bindus unification. She is the embodiment of nadam (sound) and the manifestation of ‘Ha’karam beejam. Here, the letter ‘am’ in this beejaksharam is associated with Goddess shakti.

Hakāraha Paramēshāni
        Shivarūpī Yatastadā ।
        Tasyārthāngam Mahāshaktihi
        Hakārārtha Swarūpiṇī ।।

‘Hakaraha’ is the beejakasharam associated with Shiva. In this beejaksharam, the last half (aha) is associated with Shakti.

Ata Ēva Mahāvidyā
        Mahātripura Sundarī ।
        Nityēti Kathyatē Dēvi
        Chitkalā Paramēswari ।।

Chitkala, the awareness of the real-self, is Parameswari. This is the Mahatripura sundari Mahavidya, the ever eternal and veridical.
